Janine Puentener
Midwife
Janine joined COGA in early 2022 and thoroughly enjoys the professional, collegial nature of the team. Holding a Bachelor of Midwifery and a Bachelor of Acupuncture, with experience in massage, Janine’s practice is grounded in a holistic understanding of health.
She has worked extensively in the community as an LMC (lead maternity carer) and in that role always strove to build women’s confidence in their ability to birth. At COGA, Janine now supports the doctors in caring for patients and therefore focuses on providing thorough and compassionate service to the women she sees.
Within the field of gynaecology, she enjoys meeting the diverse and changing needs of women, from sexual and reproductive health to the issues that present with ageing. If there was one aspect of women’s health she’d like to see destigmatized though, it’s urinary incontinence in younger women. Many perceive it to be an issue that only affects the elderly but in fact, it’s more common in younger women than people realise.
Janine is mother to two grown children, and enjoys a rich life outside the clinic that includes hiking in the Port Hills, reading, enjoying the company of friends and creating textile art and crafts.
