Ann Kofoed
PA to Dr. Angela Beard
Ann brings 10 years of experience in medical administration to her exceptionally busy role of PA to Dr Angela Beard. Prior to joining COGA, she worked in cardiology, orthopaedics and colorectal practices. The move to gynaecology has been a natural one for Ann who appreciates working in a field that brings women’s health to the fore. She is proud to assist in making a real difference to the lives of those who suffer from pain and discomfort – many of whom have done so in silence and over a long period of time. Like the rest of the team, Ann thrives on seeking the best possible outcomes for our patients and enjoys working alongside talented specialists.
Although born and bred in Ōtautahi, Ann spent time working in the UK and has a close connection to Scotland where two of her three grown children now live. That connection is alive in their family business too – she and her husband own the local Rose and Thistle Pub. That keeps Ann busy during the weekends and any time left over is usually spent walking Buster the spoodle, tending the garden and entertaining friends. She is also well-known for her baking skills, with a ginger slice recipe that’s world famous in Hiatt Chambers.
Working with Dr Beard has given Ann new insight into the impact of endometriosis and painful periods on people who live with the conditions. After seeing all the options available for sufferers, she is happy to see increasingly open discussion of symptoms and treatment and appreciates that more people are sharing their experiences. She observes, as many in our field do, that women can be reluctant to come forward about menstruation-related discomfort, believing that their pain is ‘normal’. Another issue that Ann hopes to see more candid conversations around is menopause, which can have a powerful impact on women throughout life’s stages.
